Have you ever been with a group of friends, preparing to have lunch together, and someone poses the question, “Where do you want to go to eat?” It becomes very frustrating when everyone responds with, “Oh, I don’t care. The word “judgment” gets a bad rap these days, because it instantly calls up a vision of discrimination and unfair evaluation. We even use the words of Jesus to support our criticism of judgmentalness: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged” (Matthew 7:1, NIV). And yet, don’t you think it’s odd that Jesus would then turn around and call the Pharisees and Sadducees vipers and hypocrites? Sounds like judging to us!
